Hurunui High Country Lakes

Lake Sumner

Unrestricted 4WD road access is available to Loch Katrine, but anglers need to get the lock combination to a gate lock to drive from Loch Katrine to the head of Lake Sumner from Lakes Station ph 03 3144343. (Anglers can walk from this point).

Note - Access to Lake Sumner from Loch Katrine has been contentious since DoC pulled out so if you do access this area do make sure you get permission and when on the road leave gates as you find them and stay on the tracks. No dogs and do not disturb the stock.

Boats can be launched at Loch Katrine and can be taken through to Lake Sumner via the canal that connects the two lakes.

Loch Katrine

A settlement of huts at the head of Loch Katrine is the location for many holiday-makers using the area.

Lake Mason

Lake Mason and Little Lake Mason lie on Lake Taylor Station. Permission must be gained from the station before driving to the lake. Walking access is available to Lake Mason from Home Bay at Lake Sumner.

Lake Taylor

Lake Taylor is a popular fishing and camping spot.

Lake Sheppard

Access to this lake is over private land through the Lakes Station Homestead. It is advisable to ring the station before leaving home to ensure permission is obtained.
