Description A small sandy and gravel bottom stream that flows through a mixture of open land and bush that provides reasonable small stream fishing for a small population of rainbow and brown trout. The best fishing is to be had early or late in the season when there is often some migratory brown trout (some of which can be of very good size) from the winter spawning runs. Easily wadeable.
Access A road runs along side the river for some of its length though mostly it is over farmland requiring permission form the landowners.  See the Waimahora Stream access map.
Methods Both spinner and fly (though this water is ideal for dry fly or light nymphing.
Recommended tackle Light weight rods of around 4-5 weight. Light tippets are required particularly in the warmer weather when the water is low and clear. Those spinning this water need to use small light spinners of around 3 - 7 gms.
Recommended lures

Dry flies: Parachute Adams during the May fly hatch, Brown and green beetles and Coch-y-bondhu in late spring and cicada and cricket patterns from mid-summer. Leaf
hoppers are also excellent around late January and February

Nymphs: Small lightly weighted or unweighted Pheasant Tail, Halfbacks and Hare and Coppers in sizes 14 to 18.

Wet flies: Small soft hackled wet flies such as an invicta or spider pattern fished just subsurface especially during the evening rise can be very effective on warm evenings.

Spinners: Small bladed spinners preferably in red and gold patterns such as a Veltic fished through the pools or upstream into the faster water can be effective during the day when other methods fail.
