Description Due to the limited shoreline access Lake Kaniere is best fished from a boat. It has a tea colour stain to the water and although it is set in beautiful surroundings is not a highly recommended fishing venue. The western shoreline is bush covered. Where any small stream enters the lake fishing there can be some reasonable fishing to be had. Trolling is the preferred method as there is very limited access for shore based fishing as the water tends to drop away quickly. Casting from a boat can be good however and allows the angler to reach all areas of the lake.
Fish numbers and size Moderate numbers of small to medium size fish
Ease of fishing Best fished from a boat with limited shore line opportunities
Access Access is via the Lake Kaniere Rd with the Dorothy Falls Rd running of this and around the eastern shore. Although the Dorothy Falls Rd runs close to the lake there are limited parking spots on this narrow road. See the Lake Kaniere access map.
Recommended lures

Nymphs: Suspended nymphs that are just below the surface work well during the evening when fish are cruising the shallows. Fish will take nymphs of the Hare and Copper or Pheasant Tail variant which can be cast in front of any rising fish.

Dry flies: The fish are often feeding on windblown terrestrial flies and so flies such as a Green Beetle in early summer and cicada patterns from mid summer on work well. Wasp patterns can also work well in the summer months.

Wet flies: Large sunk flies such as a Hairy Dog, Mrs Simpson, Hamill's Killer or Fuzzy Wuzzy fished deep.

Spinners: When trolling use Cobras, Tasmanian Devils and Tobys .
