Ngongotaha Trout Hatchery

 

Children aged 6-14 years can learn to fly fish and catch a rainbow trout  on specified days between July and November at  the Ngongotaha Hatchery in Rotorua. This is a fun opportunity for kids, run by the Rotorua Anglers Association, sponsored by Rainbow Springs Rotorua with tackle by Kilwell, that enables you to take a child fishing with a 100% chance they will land a fish.

To register Booking/registration is essential and needs to be completed online through the Fish & Game - Eastern Region Website. (The link will be available two weeks before the event you wish to attend).
Times

Fishing times are:
9am - 12 noon
1pm - 3pm

Delays and queues are inevitable on busy days so please be patient.

Ample parking is available on the grass area as you enter the grounds. Visitors are welcome to further explore the grounds via the walkway.

What's provided

Children are provided with:

  • Quality specially designed fishing tackle
    provided by Kilwell Tackle
  • A plastic bag to take your catch home
  • Safety glasses
  • A certificate to celebrate the anglers achievement
Refreshments Drinks and barbecued sausages are available to satisfy hungry anglers and parents.
Cost We suggest a donation of $3.00 per child.
Rules
  • Children must not be left unattended
  • Safety rules must be obeyed at all times
